According to information from Gansu Provincial Electric Power Company, the first large-scale clean energy transmission UHV DC project in China, which transmits wind and solar power from Gansu to Hunan Province with a total investment of 26.2 billion yuan, was officially put into full operation on the 23rd.

According to Gansu Provincial Electric Power Company, the Jiuquan-Hunan ±800 kV UHV DC transmission project is a key grid project in China's "West-to-East Power Transmission" plan. Once the project's full benefits are realized, it can transmit 8 million kWh per hour. Based on 5,000 hours of transmission per year, it can transmit 40 billion kWh to Hunan annually, meeting one-fourth of Hunan's electricity demand. The project starts from Guazhou County, Jiuquan City, Gansu Province, crosses the Hexi Corridor, passes through five provinces and municipalities including Gansu, Shaanxi, Chongqing, Hubei, and Hunan, and ends in Xiangtan County, Xiangtan City, Hunan Province, with a total line length of 2,383 kilometers. The project includes two new converter stations, Qilian and Shaoshan, with a total converter capacity of 16 million kW and a rated transmission capacity of 8 million kW.

A relevant person in charge from Gansu Provincial Electric Power Company stated that the Jiuquan-Hunan project has enormous economic, social, and environmental benefits, and is of great significance for promoting the development of Gansu's energy base, expanding the consumption range of new energy, and improving air quality.

The person in charge said that the project started construction in June 2015 and was fully connected at the end of December 2016. This cross-regional transmission channel, which specifically serves the transmission of wind and solar power from Jiuquan, fully adopts China's independently developed UHV DC transmission technology and equipment.
