The triple frequency generator device is also commonly referred to as the triple frequency induced withstand voltage test device

It is a specialized power supply equipment in the power system.

If you compare the previously asked microcomputer relay protection tester to the "all-around coach" of the power grid, then the triple frequency generator is the "specialized MRI machine" for deep inspections of transformers and instrument transformers. Its core task is to provide a 150Hz high-voltage test power supply for equipment such as power transformers and voltage transformers, specifically to assess the insulation strength between turns, layers, and phases within the windings of these devices.

⚙️ Core Purpose and Importance

Transformers and instrument transformers must undergo "induced withstand voltage tests" to ensure their insulation quality during factory delivery or maintenance.

Why use triple frequency (150Hz)? According to national standards, the test voltage is typically more than twice the rated voltage of the equipment. If a regular 50Hz power frequency supply is used directly to apply such a high voltage, the transformer core will immediately saturate severely, causing a surge in excitation current and even burning out the equipment. By increasing the frequency to 150Hz (i.e., three times the power frequency), it is possible to smoothly apply the high test voltage without saturating the core, thereby accurately detecting minor insulation defects within the windings.

Wide Application: Mainly used in power plants, substations, and power distribution networks, for performing multiple frequency induced high voltage tests on series-excited voltage transformers, power transformers, and motor windings at 35kV and above.
