Development Model of Instrumentation Industry in China

The world's major industrial powers all have high-level instrumentation industries. China, which is destined to become an industrially developed country, faces the crucial issue of how to develop its instrumentation industry. In terms of funding and technology sources, there are two models for developing the instrumentation industry worldwide: one relies primarily on domestic capital and technology, and the other relies primarily on foreign capital and technology.

Industrially developed countries generally adopt one model, while developing countries, due to limited conditions, often adopt the second model, with Singapore being a typical example. Whether China should follow one of these models to become a developed country in instrumentation is a question worthy of serious study. As China's instrumentation industry already has a considerable industrial foundation, the rise and fall of domestic enterprises has always been the primary concern in finding a path to prosperity. The effectiveness of state-owned enterprise reforms, the improvement in the level and strength of private enterprises, and the full potential of enterprises run by universities and research institutions are the hopes for domestic enterprises. Under the heavy pressure of massive foreign investment and surging imports, China's instrumentation industry faces a severe situation, but it will not be scattered, defeated, or perish. Its survival and development lie in three comparative advantages: market, human resources, and industrial foundation. China's instrumentation industry is cultivating and has already seen enterprises with such scale and capability emerge.

Chinese instrumentation enterprises will not be limited to the development of the current comparative advantage in the field of low- and medium-end products. Some enterprises in the industry already have the capability to achieve breakthroughs in certain high-tech fields, breaking the monopoly of foreign investment and imported products. On the one hand, they should fully leverage the industry's comparative advantages to consolidate and expand their position and achievements in general product areas; on the other hand, they should achieve breakthroughs in high-tech fields such as scientific instruments and test control, narrowing the gap, which is the development path for domestic enterprises.

Yangzhou Darui Electric Co., Ltd. is willing to contribute a modest force to domestic instrumentation.
